Canus was created in the mid '90s by Andre Beauregard and Andre Falardeau. While meeting with a customer in Quebec, they were asked to help develop a line of goat's milk soap. As part of the development effort, they contacted a processor of goat's milk, based to the north of Montreal. The processor works with two cooperatives which have more than 2,500 goats in their dairy farms. The processor and the cooperatives work together to produce milk, yogurt, butter and some great chevre. Working with the cooperative's chemist, the two partners developed the great soaps, lotions and skin care products that you enjoy. All of the packaging ideas and graphics were developed by a talented childhood friend of one of the partners.

Most soaps developed for children are simply repackages of adult formulations. When Canus Vermont decided to make skin care products for children, they took a different approach, starting with the specific pH of children's skin. They use their vegetable soap as a base and since fragrance can be an irritant to some children, their signature is lightly added. In addition to the gentle vegetable soap base, allantoin (from plant sources) and vitamin E were added for extra buffering.

Canus Goat's Body Butter was developed to create a super-rich cream that could be applied to ttrouble-spots such as elbows, knees, heels and other especially dry areas that could benefit from the application of naturally moisturizing farm-fresh goatss milk. Canus Goat's Milk Lotion was developed to bring the natural moisturizing properties of fresh goat's milk to a body lotion. The Body Wash is available in a fragranced or fragrance-free version and comes packaged in an attractive 16-ounce plastic container created in the shape of an old two-handled milk processing can.

Throughout the year, Canus offers a variety of gift sets which change from season to season. Typically, they try to have three gift sets offered, at varying price points.

The fragrance that is used is very mild and is described by many people as "fresh" or "clean" smelling. The liquid soap is extra gentle for everyday use. The hand liquid soaps are packaged in a 12 ounce bottle with a pump top. The hand liquid soap is available in a traditional or in an anti-bacterial formula.

The Goat's Milk Lotion was developed to bring the natural moisturizing properties of fresh goat's milk to a body lotion. Goat's Milk Body Wash was developed to bring the natural moisturizing properties of fresh goat's milk to a shower gel. Critical in the development of the Goat's Milk Foaming Milk Bath was the desire to have a rich bath that would have mountains of long-lasting bubbles.
